Backup & devices
Are my records backed up?
Yes, automatically, as long as your iPhone is signed in to iCloud. Pawtal saves everything to your own private iCloud account. You can check this in Pawtal under Settings → Backup & sync, which shows "Synced with iCloud" when it's working.
I got a new phone. How do I get my records back?
Sign in to the new phone with the same Apple Account, install Pawtal and open it. Your pets and records download from iCloud on their own. Give it a minute or two the first time.
Can I use Pawtal on more than one device?
Yes. Any iPhone, iPad or Apple-silicon Mac signed in to the same Apple Account will show the same records, kept up to date automatically.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Your Apple Account is all Pawtal needs. There's no separate sign-up or password.
Scanning paperwork
How does scanning work?
Go to Records → Scan and take a photo, or choose an image or PDF. Pawtal reads the paper on your phone and fills in what it finds (vaccine, dates, clinic, weight) for you to check before saving. The original is kept in Records → Docs.
Scanning got something wrong or missed a detail.
- Lay the paper flat in good light and fill the frame with it.
- Printed papers work much better than handwriting.
- Smart auto-fill works best on iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence turned on (Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri). Other iPhones still find dates, weights and common vaccine names.
- You can always correct any field before tapping Save.
Where do my scanned documents go?
Every scan is saved in Records → Docs, where you can view it full-screen, rename it or share it. If a scan also filled in a vaccine or visit, the two are linked, so you can jump from one to the other.
Reminders
I'm not getting reminders.
- Reminders for vaccines and appointments are part of Pawtal Pro. Check Settings → Pawtal Pro in the app.
- Make sure Enable reminders is on in Pawtal's Settings.
- Make sure notifications are allowed in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Pawtal.
- A vaccine only gets reminders if it has a next due date.
- To test, use Settings → Reminders → Send a test reminder.
When do reminders arrive?
At 9 AM on the day you choose. You can pick how far ahead you're reminded, separately for vaccines and appointments, in Settings → Reminders.
Pawtal Pro
What's included in Pawtal Pro?
Unlimited pets, vaccine and appointment reminders, and sharing the Pet Passport PDF. Records, scanning, documents, weight tracking and iCloud backup are free for everyone.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple. On your iPhone open Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Pawtal, or in Pawtal tap Settings → Pawtal Pro → Manage subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. Your records are never deleted when a subscription ends.
I paid but Pro isn't unlocked.
In Pawtal, tap Settings → Pawtal Pro → Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you used to subscribe. If it still doesn't work, email us.
Can I get a refund?
Payments are handled by Apple, so refunds are too. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Can my family use my subscription?
Yes. Pawtal Pro supports Apple Family Sharing, so members of your Family Sharing group get Pro at no extra cost.
Your data
Who can see my pet's records?
Only you, plus anyone you choose to share a PDF or document with. Records are stored on your devices and in your own iCloud, and we have no access to them. See our privacy policy.
How do I delete everything?
Delete your pets in the app (this removes their records too), or delete the app and then remove Pawtal's data from iCloud in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Storage → Pawtal.
